Louisville Veggie Meetup Dinner at Half Peach Cafe
Half-Peach  Bakery & Cafe 4121 Oechsli Ave, St Matthews (Louisville) , KY 40207  (502) 742-7839

We'll meet at one of our tried and true spots: Half Peach Vegan Bakery and Restaurant. Try the new Impossible Burger, named such because it "delivers all the flavor, aroma and beefiness of meat from cows. But here’s the kicker: It’s just plants doing the Impossible." Consumer Reports claims that "it came closer to real beef in flavor and texture than any other veggie burger we’ve tasted at Consumer Reports. In cooking, the Impossible Burger develops a nicely browned crust. When you bite into it, you get the same browned flavors, fatty mouthfeel, and burst of juiciness you would in a burger...". And without the animal cruelty or environmental impact of real meat.

If you aren’t in the mood for a burger, Half Peach will have its usual other great menu items, including pizza, Southern chickn, banh mi, shrimp po boy, and the fantastic nacho bowl. Please join us for a casual night out.  It will be easy to find the group. I'll have a few tables pushed together, with a stack of vegan magazines for people to peruse.   https://www.meetup.com/Louisville-Veggie-Meetup/events/260764368/

Wolf Run Wildlife Sanctuary Weekend Events
Wolf Run  7376 Old Danville Road       Nicholasville, Kentucky  40356
*just south of the Camp Nelson Heritage Park and military cemetery

Wolf Run Wildlife Refuge and Educational Facility, Inc.  began its lifesaving efforts in 1993. The facility, located in Nicholasville, KY, was enacted to help innocent animals find a world that was safe, free from abuse and a permanent sanctuary for those that could not be released back into the wild. Wolf Run has grown into a state and USDA licensed educational facility that houses Kentucky native wildlife as well as  African lions to South American cougars, from Wolves and Coyotes to our native Whitetail deer. We work to offer each of them an existence that closely mimics their natural habitats. It is our intense compassion and devotion to caring for these animals that makes Wolf Run Wildlife Refuge such a wonderful place!

We are open for special events the last weekend of each month beginning in April and running through November. Please check our events page for details.
We also rescue homeless, abused, neglected, abandoned, unwanted, and senior dogs and other pets along with other domestic and farm animals in hopes of healing them physically and emotionally then finding quality homes for them to reside in.  ceoatwrwrhope@aol.com  phone (859) 881-3449    http://wolfrun.org/

'History of Old Friends' Book
A Home for Retired Thoroughbreds
Publisher: The History Press

This is the story of the creation of Old Friends, a Thoroughbred retirement farm in Georgetown, Ky., by Michael Blowen, who turned a dream into reality.

Like many before him in the Bluegrass State, Michael Blowen, a former Boston Globe entertainment writer, fell in love with horses, specifically Thoroughbreds. The reality beyond the racetracks, he knew, was that each day a Thoroughbred was in the spotlight, for some of these distinguished athletes, their days were numbered. For that reason, he dreamed of finding a way to give them a dignified retirement after they completed their rigorous racing careers. When he opened the Thoroughbred retirement farm Old Friends in Kentucky in 2003, he never dreamed his idea would grow so big, so fast. Today, Old Friends is home to more than 130 horses, many of them stallions, as well as geldings, mares and one loveable miniature horse named Little Silver Charm. Join journalist and horse lover Rick Capone for the story of Old Friends and the horses that call the arm home. 50% of the sales of this book is donated to Old Friends.

AT OLD FRIENDS, the non-profit Thoroughbred Retirement Center in Georgetown, KY, the horses may not be racing anymore, but they are winners every day. Founded in 2003 by former Boston Globe film critic Michael Blowen, Old Friends now cares for more than 150 horses across three states whose racing and breeding careers came to an end. A “living history museum of horse racing”, the farm attracts nearly 20,000 tourists annually.

The 501 (c) 3 was formed in 2003, propelled by news that Kentucky Derby winner Ferdinand had died in a slaughterhouse. We started with one-leased paddock and two horses. By 2014 we had grown into a 136-acre owned farm, additional leased acres, and a satellite facility in NY.
In all, Old Friends supports over 150 rescued and retired Thoroughbreds.    http://www.oldfriendsequine.org/
